The Agbokim Waterfalls

The Agbokim Waterfalls is located in Cross River State, about 17 kilometres from Ikom and 315 kilometers from Calabar, in the Etung Local Government, very close to the Nigerian-Cameroonian border.

The waterfall comprises seven streams, each cascading over and down seven steep cliffs, giving the fall the appearance of having seven faces. The waterfall is on the Cross River, and down they go through a rich tropical rainforest arranged in terraces. The forest is itself a wonder, with its lushness and bright greenness. Surrounding the fall also, are very steep hills and valleys; the beauty and wonder at its finest.

Another uniqueness about the Agbokim Waterfalls is that unlike falls that dry up or diminish in velocity, this one remains full and rushing all year round. The scenic waterfall appears as a falling sheet of water and at just the right moment, the traveller can watch the mist drift off the crashing waters, creating bright rainbow colours. From the hilly sides, the falls create a picture of running pillars of water crystals crashing at the base, with loud roars and lots of white foam.

The history of the Agbokim Waterfalls has been traced to the early ‘90s when a hunter, Ntakum, discovered the waterfall. On finding it, he brought his and the other families of Inaku, a mountainous settlement, to inhabit the waterfall area.
